Holidays to Jamaica

As laid back as a reggae rhythm in some ways, and as spicy as jerk chicken in others, holiday deals to Jamaica promise something for everyone. There’s mile upon mile of picture-postcard beaches plus fantastic resorts like buzzing Montego Bay and relaxed Negril to enjoy. There’s mist-shrouded mountains and dense tropical rainforest, where tumbling waterfalls and tropical birds form the only soundtrack. There’s tipping your hat to homeboy Bob Marley and dancing the night away to the Jamaican beat. And everywhere, there’s sun, sun, sun.

If you come to Jamaica for the beaches, you won’t be disappointed. Doctor’s Cave Beach at Montego Bay has silky white sand and swaying palm trees, plus a strip of shops and restaurants for good off-beach action. Negril Beach is a Caribbean classic with seven miles of talcum-powder sand shelving gently into turquoise water, as well as some of the most jaw-dropping sunsets you’ll ever see. (You can even take your clothes off on certain stretches for that all-over tan!) And explore the south coast, and you’ll discover secluded coves where pirates once hid.

Staying stretched out on the sand is certainly an enticing option on holiday deals to Jamaica. But the island has so much more to offer, and whether you take a hike up into the Blue Mountains for glorious views, spot crocodiles among the mangrove swamps of the Black River, or explore the Green Grotto Caves, there’s plenty to tempt you away from the beach. There’s also history to discover, including imposing plantation houses like Rose Hall Great House, while a visit to the capital Kingston, with its colonial architecture and reggae clubs, helps you get right under the island’s skin.

All this, plus ocean-fresh seafood, spicy creole cooking, Captain Morgan’s rum and Red Stripe beer…plus a party waiting to happen round every corner. As the locals would say, ‘Ya mon!’

Vegas at Christmas

Hiking in the Blue Mountains

Hike to the top of the island’s highest peak, the Blue Mountain, through lush tropical rainforest where you’ll feel like you’re walking through a tunnel of green. You’ll be rewarded with beautiful vistas across the Blue Mountain range along the way, and stunning views from the top – as far as Cuba, 90 miles away, on a clear day.

Bobsled Museum

Made famous by the film ‘Cool Runnings’ about Jamaica’s Bobsled team, visit the Bobsled Museum to meet the lifesize figures of the team. The views on the way up are wonderful although coming down is a heart-in-the-mouth 90 second bobsled ride twisting through the mountains. To get a true rush, everyone recommends not using the brakes and going full speed!

Vegas at Christmas

Mystic Mountain Sky Explorer Zipline & Dunn’s River Falls

At Mystic Mountain the Sky Explorer chairlift carries you high above the trees to a zipline sending you speeding back down again through the tropical forest. Also nearby is the famous Cool Runnings Bob-sled ride twisting down the mountainside. Afterwards, cool off at Dunn’s River Falls and climb the 600 feet of cascading waterfalls.

Bamboo Rafting

Soak up the scenery as an expert raftsman guides you lazily down the river aboard your personal bamboo raft. Your captain will detail the colourful folklore of the region and you can explore the lush tropical banks along the way. Try the three picturesque miles of Martha Brae River, or the 2 hour tour along the Rio Grande.

Vegas at Christmas

Taste Jamaica

Jamaican food is known for its spicy and exotic dishes, especially its jerk chicken, so try out roadside restaurants for some homemade dishes with flavours as hot as the island itself. Unique, rich and smooth rum has been distilled on Jamaica for centuries so don’t miss the Jamaican Rum tour at the Appleton Estate, the island’s oldest distillery.
