The Caribbean is arguably the world’s most perfect holiday spot, with its golden beaches, azure waters and laid-back atmosphere helping to make it the ideal destination for all kinds of visitor. Couples will find themselves particularly spoilt for choice when booking a trip to the region, which is why we have decided to narrow down the extensive list of options to what we think are the top 10 most romantic Caribbean holidays of all.
Jade Mountain Anse Chastanet Resort, St Lucia - 5*
Our first choice offers the kind of holiday experience we have all dreamt about. Jade Mountain in St Lucia is far more than a hotel – built right into the mountainside, it is the definition of a true island hideaway.
There are many striking features that come as standard in Jade Mountain’s 24 exclusive suites, but perhaps the best of all is the absence of a fourth wall, allowing guests a completely unimpeded view over the Caribbean Sea and the stunning volcanic spires of the Pitons.
Ladera Resort, St Lucia – 4*
Also found in St Lucia, and not far from Jade Mountain, is the equally beautiful Ladera Resort. Just like our previous choice, the accommodation at Ladera overlooks both the Pitons and the sea and benefits from the incredible views afforded by an open wall.
One of the best things about our Caribbean couples’ holidays is the opportunity they provide to enjoy delicious, locally-sourced fine dining together, and the wonderful open-air Dasheene restaurant at Ladera will allow you to do this in the most amazing of settings.
Spice Island Beach Resort, Grenada – 5*
Next, we head to the nearby island nation of Grenada, and its lovely Spice Island Beach Resort. Less luxurious but just as romantic as our St Lucia picks, Spice Island is situated right next to the idyllic Grand Anse beach, making it the perfect romantic Caribbean holidays option for couples who love sunbathing, water sports or a combination of the two.
A resort which puts a big focus on relaxation, Spice Island offers guests everything from lavish gardens and cocktail bars to live reggae and steel band performances, ensuring that your honeymoon or romantic getaway will be as varied as it is tranquil.
Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort, St Lucia – 4.5*
By now, it should be obvious that we think St Lucia is among the most romantic of all the Caribbean islands, and this is also where our next accommodation choice can be found. Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort is yet another place from which you can see the Piton mountains in all their glory and is located – as its name would suggest – right by the crystal-clear ocean.
Sugar Beach is also renowned for the wonderful wedding packages it offers, helping it to rank among the finest of Caribbean honeymoon destinations.
Galley Bay Resort and Spa, Antigua – 4.5*
Along with St Lucia, Antigua is doubtless one of the Caribbean’s top romantic hotspots. Arguably the best place for couples to base themselves during their stay there is the Galley Bay Resort and Spa; offering exclusively adults-only accommodation, each guest suite is right on the beach and provides privacy and serenity in equal measure.
Galley Bay is also unique in that it benefits from having its own lagoon and bird sanctuary, along with more traditional attractions such as spa treatments and tennis.
Bucuti & Tara Beach Resorts, Aruba – 5*
Our number one choice on the small but charming island of Aruba is the Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort. Another adults-only beachside option, this is a very popular romantic Caribbean holidays destination for honeymooners seeking to enjoy their own little bit of paradise after making their vows.
And, for couples who fancy something a little different on their getaway, there is also the chance to spend an evening in the adjacent Alhambra Casino, a Vegas-style attraction that offers gamers all the exciting table games and slot machines they could hope for!
Montpelier Plantation, Nevis – 4*
The Montpelier Plantation, found on the tiny West Indian island of Nevis, would be an excellent romantic Caribbean holidays choice for those who really want privacy and seclusion on their couples’ trip. A boutique hotel with just a small selection of detached, individually-themed rooms, this is a truly relaxing location.
Often cited by publications like Conde Nast Traveler for its romantic credentials, Montpelier is not for the kind of people who constantly need technology at their fingertips to enjoy themselves. If fine wine, decadent food and incredible countryside views do appeal to you, however, you need look no further.
Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya, Mexico – 5*
The Riviera Maya coastline in north-eastern Mexico is home to the amazing Secrets Akumal beach resort. A cutting-edge hotel that only opened as recently as 2015, it will not surprise you to learn that this destination benefits from all the five-star amenities that can be found in each of the other iconic Secrets locations.
Some highlights of the Unlimited-Luxury® package you and your partner can enjoy here will include 24-hour room service, unlimited gourmet food and top-shelf spirits, and limitless daytime and evening activities.
Palm Island Resort, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – 4.5*
Surely offering the ultimate in romantic seclusion, our penultimate choice belongs to St. Vincent and the Grenadines but is a resort that can, unusually, boast of having a whole island to itself. The Palm Island Resort & Spa is a sizeable 135 acres and has five beaches, yet only just over 40 rooms – a mere 10 of which are doubles!
Whilst all the romantic Caribbean holidays we have discussed allow couples to spend some true quality time with each other, Palm Island takes things to another level. From rooms which purposely eschew TVs and phones in favour of the tranquil surroundings just beyond the threshold to all-inclusive fine dining and cocktail parties, it is fair to say you will never have experienced a holiday like those available here before.
Pineapple Beach Club, Antigua – 4*
Finally, our second trip to Antigua takes us to a bona fide classic romantic Caribbean destination – the Pineapple Beach Club. A favourite spot amongst visiting couples for 50 years (and fully renovated in 2016), this wonderful resort combines beachside accommodation with 30 acres of verdant tropical gardens, providing the prefect setting for all tastes and occasions.
Water sports and a wide range of dining options are two things that the Pineapple Beach Club has long excelled at, and it’s easy to see why it has been such a popular resort for so many decades.
