It is no exaggeration to say that the Caribbean is possibly the most romantic destination on the planet. With its countless golden beaches and elegant hotels, as well as a distinctly laid-back atmosphere, there is surely nowhere better to enjoy a private getaway with your special someone.
To get the most out of your time together in this beautiful part of the world, however, it’s important that you stay somewhere that will be perfect for just the two of you. Below, you will find five of our top accommodation choices which anyone searching for Caribbean holidays for couples need to take a look at.
Couples San Souci, Jamaica – 5*
If you’re planning to visit Jamaica on your couples’ trip but aren’t sure which of the island’s resorts would be the most suitably romantic and secluded, we recommend trying the Couples San Souci in Ocho Rios – after all, there's a clue in the name!
Exclusively available to couples, the so-called ‘jewel of Jamaica’ is full of luxurious suites directly overlooking the idyllic nearby beach, giving you and your loved one the opportunity to relax in your very own piece of paradise.
There is much more to Couples San Souci than its accommodation, however, and this multi-faceted resort will especially appeal to couples who enjoy keeping fit and taking part in some exciting outdoor activities. From scuba diving and windsurfing to reef snorkelling and glass bottom boat rides, there are many ways for you to explore the stunning coastal scenery that Jamaica’s north coast has in abundance. And the best bit? All these activities are included in the price of your holiday!
On top of this, and along with an impressive range of high-quality restaurants and bars, Couples San Souci also boasts a truly fantastic spa which was named the finest such hotel facility in the Caribbean by Travel + Leisure magazine. What’s not to love?
Calabash Cove Resort & Spa, St Lucia – 4.5*
Another location that’s just for adults, the Calabash Cove Resort & Spa on the picture-perfect island of St Lucia is perhaps most highly regarded for the unbeatable levels of service provided as standard to all their guests.
One of the most welcoming places in a nation already renowned for its friendly atmosphere, this resort prides itself on its hospitality – they even claim that every member of staff, right down to the maintenance team, will remember your name and be happy to stop for a chat!
The Calabash Cove Resort & Spa opened as recently as 2009 and has just 26 rooms, meaning that couples looking to enjoy some quality time with each other can rest assured they will be doing so in a setting that is as modern and well-equipped as it is quiet and intimate.
As well as the wonderful on-site Windsong restaurant (which features a sumptuous Asian-inspired menu that changes daily), possibly the best part about staying at Calabash Cove is the access every single one of its rooms offers to either the beach, a private plunge pool, a communal pool, an oversized jacuzzi, or a combination of each!
Blue Waters Inn, Tobago – 4*
A classically intimate destination, Tobago’s historic Blue Waters Inn has less than 40 rooms and is arguably the most naturally picturesque of all our recommended Caribbean couples’ holidays accommodation options. Two of the surrounding estate’s many former uses were as an animal sanctuary and dedicated birdwatching hotel, which should tell you all you need to know about its suitability for nature lovers.
Whilst it is not exclusive to adults, the inn is still a great choice for couples, offering guests easy access to a lovely, golden beach in its own private bay, excellent casual dining at the Drift Deck restaurant, and fantastic opportunities for world-class diving trips.
Also, the Blue Waters Inn is just a short boat ride away from the famous Little Tobago (also known as the Bird of Paradise Island). Spending a day here will allow you to spot all manner of interesting wildlife native to the area, including the red-billed tropicbird, the Audubon’s shearwater, and the unforgettable red-footed booby.
Excellence El Carmen, Dominican Republic – 5*
Excellence El Carmen, found in the Dominican Republic’s glorious Punta Cana region, is another adults-only resort that puts an emphasis on romance – and the fact that all its accommodation is fully all-inclusive will certainly help you to relax in style!
With more than 20 swimming pools, 12 first-rate international restaurants and a wide range of activities to choose from (including the likes of sailing, yoga, air rifle shooting and even Spanish lessons), there’s no risk of being stuck for things to do during your stay, even if you never leave the hotel.
Like every resort on our list, Excellence El Carmen (which only opened in 2016) also benefits from its stunning location. Right next to a typically beautiful Caribbean beach fringed with coconut palms, it really does have everything any couple could want from their honeymoon or rejuvenating romantic getaway.
Oualie Beach Resort, Nevis – 3.5*
Our final selection is the Oualie Beach Resort on the island of Nevis. This charming and intimate choice is comprised of just over 30 individual, cottage-like guesthouses dotted along the beachfront, with the accommodation’s layout affording an enviable level of privacy and seclusion.
Whilst this 3½ star resort is perhaps not quite as exclusive or luxurious as the other destinations we have highlighted, there can be no doubt that it remains a popular option for couples who want to experience a quiet (and great value) romantic Caribbean break.
The idyllic beachside setting makes this the perfect place to take part in all kinds of coastal activity. Whether you and your partner want to enjoy scuba diving, snorkelling, catamaran tours, sunset cruises or horse rides on the beach, this resort offers it all at very reasonable prices.
Once the sun goes down, you can relax with a fabulous meal and specially selected wine curated by Executive Chef Gary Urbanski at the Oualie Beach Restaurant. If you get the chance, be sure to dine there on a Tuesday evening, when you can savour your fresh, locally-caught tuna, wahoo or mahi-mahi to the soundtrack of a live house band; be warned, though – they may well get you to join in with their performance!
